You built the life you wanted, and still something feels off. What if nothing is wrong with your life, or with you?

Let me start with something many of us don't like to admit.
Life is really good. You look around and you love the people in it. You are grateful for what you have, and you most likely worked very hard to build it.
And then, every now and then, a sneaky little thought shows up. Why am I not happier? Why do I keep feeling so restless? What is wrong with me that I can't just be happy?
I hear these questions all the time. I asked them myself. I am a mother of three, a wife, and I built a picture-perfect life. And for a while, I had it all and I still wasn't feeling happy. That is exactly the place I help women walk out of today.
The "one day when" trap
Most of us grew up with a quiet promise in our heads.
When I have the job, I will feel secure.
When I get married, I will feel loved.
When I have kids, I will feel like I completed my purpose.
And many of us did achieve those things. Then we looked around and realized it doesn't feel the way we thought it would.
Life is not "one day when." Sometimes we use that idea to keep waiting to feel good, while life is happening right now, right here.
I really believe that the life you have already built is the life you are supposed to have. The question is not whether you need a different life. It's how you can feel like you belong in the one you already have.
The equation that keeps us stuck
Here is an equation I see in so many of my clients. You might read it and think, "That's not what I believe." Stay with me anyway.
If life is good, it should feel good. All the time.
So when it doesn't feel good, we give ourselves two options:
- Something must be wrong with my life.
- Something must be wrong with me.
If it's my life, I start trying to fix my life. A new routine, a new house, a new plan. If it's me, I start trying to fix myself. More discipline, more self-improvement, more pressure.
Either way, we end up solving the wrong problem.
A third option
What if there is nothing wrong?
What if the frustration and the dissatisfaction you are feeling right now are showing you that something you value has stopped receiving your attention?
That changes everything. Frustration stops being a verdict about your life or about you. It becomes information. It's data, pointing you to what matters.
Maybe what is missing is real rest. Maybe it's being present with yourself. Maybe it's the feeling that you actually have a choice in how you spend your time.
You can't see any of that while you are busy trying to fix your life or fix yourself.
Try this this week
The next time that restless feeling shows up, don't rush to fix it. Ask yourself two simple questions:
- What am I actually frustrated about here?
- What matters to me in this moment that isn't getting my attention?
Write the answers down. You might be surprised by how much information was hiding inside a feeling you were trying to get rid of.
Your life is good. And it can feel good too, not one day when, but in the way you live it today.
