Be-Do-Have alone doesn’t work

Why BE-DO-HAVE Isn’t Enough (And What Actually Creates Sustainable Change)

You’ve probably heard of the famous coaching model: BE → DO → HAVE.

It’s everywhere. And honestly, it’s a powerful shift compared to how most of us were raised to think about success.

But here’s the truth that most people don’t talk about:

BE-DO-HAVE alone doesn’t work.

Not in a deep, sustainable, “my life actually feels different now” kind of way.

Let me explain.

1. Why BE-DO-HAVE Stops Working

Most of us grew up in the traditional model:

DO → HAVE → BE.

Do more, so you can have more, so eventually you’ll be the successful/happy/whole person you want to be.

And BE-DO-HAVE came in as a welcome alternative:

Be first. Then do the things that version of you would do. Then have the results.

The problem?
Most women don’t actually know who they want to
become — not in a way they can access, see clearly, or act from.

You can’t copy a version of you that you haven’t met yet.

So BE-DO-HAVE becomes a nice idea… but it stays theoretical.
You get stuck trying to guess:

“How would the future successful me behave?”
“How would she eat?”
“How would she show up?”
“How would she run her business?”

If you could answer those questions with clarity, you'd already be doing it.

Which is why BE-DO-HAVE so often collapses.

Not because it’s wrong, but because it’s incomplete.

2. Identity Is Always Stronger Than Willpower

This is the real reason change fades:

Identity ALWAYS wins.

You might create new habits for a while…
Eat differently…
Show up differently…
Work harder…

But if your identity hasn’t changed, you will snap right back to where you feel most familiar.

It works like a thermostat.
You can open the door in the winter and let the temperature drop…
but the thermostat will kick on and pull the room back to whatever temperature it was set to.

Your identity is that thermostat.

If you see yourself as someone who always struggles with weight…
Or someone who “isn’t good with money”…
Or someone whose marriage is “just okay”…

You can change for a moment, but eventually the identity kicks in and brings you back to the old baseline.

Willpower fades.
Identity doesn’t.

This is why people lose weight and gain it back.
Make money and blow it.
Have a good month in business and then freeze.
Make progress in their marriage and then revert to old patterns.

Your identity determines the ceiling.

3. You Can’t Sustain a Goal You Can’t See Yourself Living

This is the missing piece.

Unless you can SEE yourself in the future clearly, vividly, grounded in your values and desires, the goal will not feel sustainable.

Your brain cannot build a life you cannot imagine.

If the only picture your mind has is the “current you,” it will always pull you back to the old baseline.

But when you SEE:

who you are becoming,

  • how your life feels when it’s aligned,

  • the version of you living in integrity with her values,

  • the habits that feel natural to her,

  • and the identity she embodies…

…then your brain finally has a map.

Transformation becomes inevitable not because you’re pushing, but because you’re simply stepping into a version of yourself you already recognize.

This is why the Future Self Model works:

SEE → FEEL → KNOW & BE → DO → HAVE

You SEE the future with clarity.
You FEEL what it’s like to be her.
You KNOW this is aligned with your values, vision, and desires.

Then the identity shifts.
Then the habits stick.
Then the results last.

4. You Must Know Your Values (or You Might Be Climbing the Wrong Ladder)

Stephen Covey gives the perfect analogy:

“If the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall, every step we take just gets us to the wrong place faster.”

Most women have spent years,  even decades  climbing a ladder that society approved of:

the successful career

  • the perfect family

  • the steady marriage

  • the fit body

  • the socially acceptable life

But they reach the “top” and feel empty, guilty, or confused.

Not because they failed, but because they climbed a ladder that wasn’t theirs.

Before you can see your Future Self clearly, you must know:

  • What do I value the most?

  • What are my real priorities?

  • What actually matters to me?

  • What am I willing to stop pretending I want?

Your values determine the wall your ladder leans on.

Your imagination builds the picture at the top.

Your identity becomes the woman climbing it.

And your Future Self shows you exactly where you’re going.

The Truth

Real, lasting transformation doesn’t come from doing more.
It doesn’t come from forcing discipline.
It doesn’t come from willpower.

It comes from:

  • knowing your values,

  • imagining a future you actually want,

  • seeing yourself inside that future,

  • aligning how you live today with who you are becoming.

From there?

Your goals stop being something you chase…
and start being something you naturally grow into.

This is how you create a life that feels like yours — not society’s version, not the old identity’s limitations, not a ladder on the wrong wall.

Your Future Self is already living the life you want.

Your work is simply becoming her.

Ready to Take This Work Deeper?

If this resonates with you, you won’t want to miss the Future Self Mindset Program.

Inside the program, I walk you step by step through exactly how to do this work, how to clean yourself up from all the crusts society has put on you, reconnect with who you really are, understand your values, and create a clear vision of what life is supposed to be for YOU.

When you know your Future Self, your goals stop being something you “try” to achieve.
They become
inevitable, because that’s just who you are.

If you feel that pull… trust it. This work will change everythig.

Podcast Full Episode

Be-Do-Have is one of the most important models in the coaching industry.
ICF teaches it, and most coaches use it as one of the first exercises with new clients.

I know it has been super helpful to me in the past, but as I was working with many clients and as I shifted my message and niche to be more focused in the work of FS, I realized that this model alone is faulty.

So, How does this model work?

I will use my own example, when I lost weight and started running daily.

Then, it realized I didn’t know exactly WHO I needed to be, and that’s the biggest piece of this.

The society teaches us that we need to do things differently.

If I want to have a skinny body, I need to eat well and exercise (DO) then have the body and finally become the identity of a skinny person → DO-HAVE-BE

We know that this doesn’t work because how many times have you lost weight and gained it all back?

Or people who lose all their money they won in lottery, or all the NBA players… They never changed the identity, so it wasn’t sustainable.

Hey guys. Welcome back to the podcast. I am actually so tired right now. I woke up at five in the morning and I have been back to back and all of the calls, all the fun stuff. But the reason why I'm doing all of this two big things. First of all, I am Super launch in.

Now It's for real. It's ready to go. It's ready to start right with all of you guys. So I have opened my future self mindset program for my, private clients. First, some of them joined and we start working on this, and then I open up to a few more. People. And now I feel totally ready to do this.

So we are starting together in January, and you'll hear a lot more about this. I am really preparing the whole, you know, the lunch, if you will. But I'm really excited about this. And also as I'm working on my Lunch for Future self mindset program, I'm also working with Debbie Shattered to do one more summit.

We are having another summit in February, and I gotta tell you, I had two hours call, actually three hours because we just couldn't hang up. we had three hour call today, all about their slides and the message and the talks and everything is so amazing. last time we did the summit was back in September and we had so close to a thousand people.

Like I actually say it was a thousand because we had. So close to a thousand people in the summit, and it was so much fun. I mean. I'm so proud. I'm kind of like the mama coach that have taught those little babies. I mean, they're not babies, they're professionals and they're great. But just knowing that I had my little hands in their magic, it's so exceptional.

I absolutely love it. And now we have a whole new crew. Some of them are back. If you were a coach and you wanted to be in a summit, you want to participate, please send me a message. Debbie and I. Would be more than happy to get you, up to speed. I think we have maybe one more spot, maybe two available.

so let me know if you want to be in a summit, if you're a coach and you want to tell the world about your message and you don't really know how to. We'll help you. We'll walk through everything with you and it's just amazing. I am actually thinking of bringing some of the summit speakers to the podcast.

That'll be really fun too, to have some kind of that, you know the very long conversations I like to have with them. Today I wanted to talk about something that has to do with the future self mindset and how we deal with this, right? How do we start? And if you have worked with future self coaches or mindset coaches, like coaches who are really, interested in working with your identity and not your body right now, maybe some weight loss coach would use this.

Specific thing that I would talk about, I don't see why not, but it's very common in the coaching industry, especially within the mindset, when we are very focused on your identity. And this is the model that ICF uses and many, coaching accreditation, agencies use too. To help you understand the identity side of,the coaching and this model is called be, do, and have,

I even found coaches who the whole program, it's called Be, do and Have because they believe in so much. And I actually did take a couple of classes there, just, you know, it wasn't even classes, but those free calls that they do. And I was like, well that is very interesting how, even this specific coach talks about and have, but this is very common.

It's not. Just this one person, right? This is an exercise that it's taught in coaching certifications, and the B do in half is extremely helpful, especially if you're working towards your future self, because the future self you really to understand who you are becoming who you need to be, right? That's why the B comes first, and then do and have, and what does that mean?

    How does this model work?

I use myself an example of this because this was actually one of the very first exercise that I did to lose weight and to become a runner. So one day I was walking at the cemetery as one does, and I had the idea to run, and I think I've talked about this, Experience that I had, and I tried to run for 30 seconds and I couldn't even run for 10 seconds.

And I started thinking about those podcasts that I was listening to where this person said, oh, your thoughts create your results. So I started thinking. What if I thought that I could and I start to act from the thought, right? The thought of I could, gave me some type of hope. So I felt hopeful that I could actually run 30 seconds and.

I kept on trying, I kept on running until I got that 30 seconds and it sounds such a silly example to give, but that specific thing got everything changed in my life. I really started seeing things differently because of this. You know, I run 30 seconds and now I truly do believe that we can do whatever we want.

Like it is the power of your mind, not of the. A lot of attraction, but it's that, actually, no, you're pretty strong. you can do it. If you put your mind to it and you keep on doing it, and you keep on creating this emotional, resiliency, you can totally do it well. But here's the thing, when we're using that thought work, when we're using this, oh, let me change my thinking to do this one specific thing, that's the life coaching, right?

We do one problem, one thought. We change the thought. You create different results. Beautiful. But that doesn't give you a lot of, Ways to have that lifetime transformation. So what I did, and I learned this with podcasts and coaches and all those things, is that, okay, what is the identity that I have?

And at that time, my identity was that I am an overweight person. I'm like flat out fat. That's how I would call myself. I'm just too fat and. When I would try to lose weight from this place and I would try to even say, get more neutral thoughts. I will have more neutral thoughts about my body.

So instead of I have a fat body, the more neutral thinking was I have a body. My body can move, my body can lose weight. Those are like best feeling thoughts that cause me to feel,a little bit more motivated, right? If not motivated that I can't lose the weight. It's more of, well, I'm not as lob fat who can do anything.

Okay, so that was the idea again, only on the thinking part of the life coaching. And then we can introduce this, be, do, and have and it would be. Kind of like this. I want to be, or I am becoming a woman who can run and who has a very strong fit body. Okay. so that's the B. I want to be this skinnier woman.

And then you can ask yourself, okay, but. To be this person. What do you need to do? Or what do you do from the identity of being skinny and a runner, right? a strong, healthy person. And you know, it goes to the very basic things. work out and eat well and exercise, right? that's the what you need to do.

And then it's like, okay, when you do the exercise and eating healthier from the place of being this. You know, skinnier woman than you will have. What do you want to have? Because it's pretty much inevitable. And that's one of the things that I talk in my coaching, is that the goals that we set, and yes, there's some filters that we need to walk the goal through.

Like your values, your motivations, right? your deep desires. But then, yes, the goals are inevitable if you're checking all of those little boxes It's aligned with you and what you want it to be. Do and have the goals become inevitable because that's the person that you are. Now, here's the deal though.

If I'm trying to eat well and exercise from the idea of who do need to be, you don't have that example yet. You might find examples, right? When I was only coaching with this specific model, we would say things like, okay, but this skinny person, if you believed you were that way, what would you do then?

And okay, I would exercise, but how would you exercise? And that's where your brain kind of blocks, because deep down what you believe is that I am not that person. I literally don't know, like when you are. In this blob of I want to lose weight, but I have no idea how to do it because everything I have done in the past just didn't work.

That is the edge of your imagination and the way I say it is that you can only create, you can only. Have right to the edge of the imagination. So when you say things like, I can't even imagine how I would lose weight, or I can't imagine making more money in my business, I can't imagine having a great relationship.

Well, saying that you just need to be the person who has a better relationship with your partner and it's literally blocks you because you do not know how and sometimes even say this, if I knew how I would do it. So this model alone, the bead do and have. It's kind of tricky because if you don't know who you need to be or if you're just saying things, that's really against who you are, right?

If I am very overweight and I say that I want to be a skinny person, it doesn't work because you do not know what the skinny version of you is. You've never seen it. so a lot of times

when we get into this roadblock, sometimes we feel a little bit conflicted. It's like, okay, this is not working. what typically works, or at least in theory, this is kind of how many people achieve their own goals. It's the model that society has given you basically since you were born and that type of model it's do, have and be.

So remember coaching B, do and have. You need to be the person do the things that person would do to have for the person. Would have the society tells you, oh, no, no, no. You need to study hard. So do study hard to have a good diploma or to have the chance of having a good job so you can be a professional.

So society's model, it's do, have and be. You do the things and then you have these things, then you can be a professional. or let's skip on the weight loss idea, do the exercises, do the healthy eating, and then you will have a skin, your body, and from this heavy skin, your body in a stronger body, you can add to the identity of.

I am a healthy woman. I don't have a problem with weight because I am right. The bees always say, I am what? That's your identity. And again, it doesn't necessarily work because how many people have you heard? How many NBA players have you heard of that? did the action of playing basketball really, really well.

They had that career. They had the money, they had everything. they were rich, the B was correct. they had millions and then they lost it all. The reason why you lose weight, and gain it all back again. Or because your relationship always, you know, that cycle of a bad relationship always gets back to being not the greatest.

It's because you're not fundamentally changing the identity of who you are. So it begs the question then, right, if the B do and have is so essential, how can I change my identity first before I can do and have the things I wanted to have? This is why my friend, the be two and half alone doesn't work. We need to have, we really do need to have this other model

that I use with my clients inside of the future self mindset program. And that model is called see, feel, and know this is an exercise that I walk with you through where we needs to go to the future and see who the person is. See your version like you, who you are in the future, Did you lose the weight?

Did you achieve the goal? Did you have the job you wanted? Did you get that promotion? Did you get married? Did you have children? Like we go to the future in our minds, and this is a very specific visualization that I walk you through so that you can see if that is even what you want. Your brain does not know what is happening right now or what you're imagining.

That's why sometimes you hear a little tiny noise in your garage and you start to feel all the fear thinking that someone walked in and you have all the fear. Sometimes you even hide from that fear and no one showed up in your house. Maybe it was, I don't know, just a noise, right? So your brain actually felt like you were in danger.

Even though the facts of the situations that nothing happened, it was just a noise. Then, I don't know, something fell on the ground. Okay, so that's the idea here. Your brain is capable of going to the future or to the past and experiencing things that never existed. How many times have you had a fight in your head where you're so angry with that person?

That person has no idea that has ever happened because you only happen in your mind, but you feel it. Okay. That is the things that we do for you, but actually deliberately see your future. See the future you want to create. Understand if that future is aligned with what you want, is aligned with your values, is aligned with your desires.

And if it is, we will ask that We could get so connected with that version of you who has achieved everything that you wanted. Because remember, it's inevitable and especially if you can't see that it happens. Now it becomes the question of. Oh, how did you do it? How did you get to that place? Right. We start having this communication with your future and the future self becomes your best friend, becomes your mentor, because that's who you are.

you are not creating a new person. You are really getting away from all the crap that society has put onto you, and you get connected with that version that already lives within you. When you feel this, you know, your goals are inevitable. You know, you can, get yourself out there.

You can have the vulnerable conversation with your partner, with your boss. You can have that, vulnerability with yourself to understand why haven't you lost the weight. If there's nothing fundamentally wrong with your body, meaning if you're not actually sick, or hormones are actually having a problem, right?

why aren't you losing weight? And that honesty comes when you can look at yourself in the mirror and know that you have your own back and know that you know you are capable of doing this. And now we are just finding the. Path to do it because you know you can finish the path, right? it's not just hopeful that you're feeling, but you feel the sense of it is inevitable and you can do this when you see yourself right there.

Okay? So you see, you feel that you are there, you are ready, you can do it. And there's not just a pep talk, you know, positive thinking kind of idea. No, no, no. You actually feel it. You know, you have that. So you see yourself in the future, you feel that confidence that it's already done right. There is a dimension right here that you are already there, you know it exists.

So you see, you feel, and you get to a place where you know, you know that it's already yours. From this place, we can then start using the be, do and have. Because at that point you already know who you needed to be to do the things or how you do these things to have right now what you wanted to have.

So this is what I wanted to share with you guys. I see so many coaches using the Be, do, and have and some coaches actually use that as their whole hearts, where like, this is the key for you to succeed and. It's true. I agree that is a wonderful key to help you succeed, but it doesn't work alone.

You need to add a little bit more there for you to really get this connection with your future self. Understand who she is, and really get ready to do this work with her, not against you, right? How many times have you tried losing weight where you're basically hating yourself in the process? That doesn't work.

It just doesn't work. But when you connect with yourself in that level, anything is possible. it's actually fun to fail because you know you've got yourself, you know that you are that best friend that can totally do this. So for this week, here's what I would love for you to do. Okay? Little exercise here for you.

And again, I would love to hear from you if you do these exercises. But I would invite you to look at yourself in the mirror, and as you are looking at yourself, imagine what would it be like to look at the mirror and see the woman who has achieved that thing that you want? Do you wanna retire? Do you want a promotion?

Do you want to have a good relationship with your partner? Do you want to create a business? Do you wanna lose weight? Do you want to have a plastic surgery? What is it that you want? What is it that you want from this place? Look at the mirror and ask yourself if you see that person and let me know what happens.

Then let me know how you feel, how that goes for you, because I can promise you this is transformational. and I know you can do it. Let me know on Instagram at t Glen Coaching.

I would love to hear how this goes for you. As always, I hope you have a phenomenal week and I can wait to talk to you again next week. Much love to you. Bye-bye.
